Rwenzori Sculpture Foundation: A true and fine jewel for Uganda's bronze sculpture

I have had the honour of my life being invited to this wonderful jewel of a place in the side of the Rwenzori mountains from 6th October to 5th November 2014. Situated in the area about 11kilometres before Kasese town on the Fort Portal- Kasese Road in the vicinity of the famous Kilembe Mines, Mobuku Irrigation Scheme, Mobuku Hydro Electric Plant, Queen Elizabeth National Park, the RSF is a beautiful fusion of bronze and nature conservation. I'm learning alot from the staff; Emmanuel, Winnie, Jacob and David. The other staff members are wonderful and helpful too.

RSF has the most specialised space for Art in Uganda. I have not seen another space like this one that is so conducive for production of art. Studio space for the Artist is seperate from other spaces for making moulds, investing, they have these specially built kilns that can produce a fire more than 750 degrees centigrade. They have furnaces for melting bronze at 1400 degrees centigrade, etc etc.

The Architecture, am told is award winning, and a revelation to the beauty that inventiveness and consciousness of the ready materials that we have and could use more creatively in our contemporary Architecture. Culture and modernity have formed a spectacular bond at the Rwenzori Sculpture Foundation. Thank you the people behind it the Kingdons, Rungwe and Claude as well as your wonderful partners.

Really, this is a Studio space model that must be replicated in other areas of our beautiful country.

Pelucy's food is just great.

I have been honoured to learn also from established British Sculptor Kate Shannon (PHD). Kate's work is surreal to say the least. She works in an extremely spiritual and political way and uses materials like i have not seen before. She uses earth, plaster, wood in a way that i find difficult to explain. Strangely enough, she is looking at this trip to Rwenzori as one of her last to Africa.
